Overview
A turnkey, self-hosted cloud appliance for Philippine MSMEs with the conveniences of cloud software, without the recurring dollar-denominated bill or the I.T expertise required to setup
I designed and built it end-to-end: the CAD chassis (for versatile mounting options) and cluster for the original client engagement, then the fleet-manager broker, installer, and Dokploy-based platform fork that turned it into a product. Currently in it's pilot phase with the first pilot live on-site with a large construction firm
Decisions that shaped it
- Zero inbound ports
All public traffic enters through a per-appliance Cloudflare Tunnel into an internal reverse proxy, specifically built for Philippine's CGNAT infrastructure.
- Scoped credentials only
The broker issues single-tunnel-scoped tokens. An appliance never holds the account-level credential, so a compromised box can't reach another customer's DNS.
- Open Source
ComputeBay's client-side platform is completely open-source and can be run as is, no proprietary or non-essential additions, ever.
- App Catalog
A small vetted set of unmodified open-source apps, deployable through a delectably simplified one-tap installation process
Skillsets Used: Onshape (CAD) · Proxmox VE · Kubernetes · Docker · CI/CD · Networking · Next.js · Node.js · Express · MongoDB · Cloudflare Tunnel · tRPC · Traefik
Architecture
Using a classic server-client architecture, ComputeBay's managed tier architecture is split between two interconnected components, a centralized "fleet-manager" and a client-installed "broker-coordinator" for handling various configuration/telemetry updates.

Edge clusters, on-prem virtualization, custom hardware integrations — open to similar engagements where the build needs to be designed end-to-end.
